Skellig Michael Painting • County Kerry, Ireland Painting
Inspired by a dream of my upcoming journey to the Emerald Isle, this painting depicts Skellig Michael, the island mountain alive with shadowy figures and shades of green beneath the moonlit sky.
Off the Southwest coast of Ireland in County Kerry, across the choppy Atlantic waters, the monks had made their home. My treasured visit too lived up to the foreshadowing of a sort of coming home, which I felt so vividly as I painted deep blues against a mountain breathing holy fire and alive with mystery.
In the distance, purple mountains exude a certain peace as the broken staircase leads to a portal and into a deeper mystery.
What is your essential story of life?
What is alive in you?
Holy Mountain is an original Soul of Place painting from the County Kerry and Soul of Ireland collections by Virginia artist Dawn Richerson, who found joy and wonder in the heart of the Emerald Isle where she lived for three years. In Ireland I was met with mystery and miracle. The soul of Ireland spoke to my soul, and I was forever changed.
I'll meet you on the way!
