Knocknarae Painting • County Sligo, Ireland Painting
"The Return" was inspired by my April 10, 2015, journey to Queen Maeve's grave in the 40-foot cairn on the summit of Knocknarea, which some in County Sligo call "the magic mountain." The Earth and the sky were alive with energy as I made the solitary climb that seemed to have some significance for me personally.
The two horses, who were actually in the field to the right as I climbed (artistic liberty), seemed to have been waiting forever for a day like this. I imagined the brown horse, his mane feathered and flying about on the windy day as he stood by the stone wall in County Sligo, Ireland, to have been the strong stallion the determined queen rode into battle fearlessly.
The clouds were amazing. The one depicted in this painting seemed to be Maeve herself riding on a chariot cloud and appeared just as I reached the summit.
What is your essential story of life?
What is alive in you?
The Return is an original Soul of Place painting from the County Sligo and Soul of Ireland collections by artist Dawn Richerson, who found joy and wonder in the heart of the Emerald Isle where she lived for three years. In Ireland, I was met with mystery and miracle. The soul of Ireland spoke to my soul, and I was forever changed.
I'll meet you on the way!
