From behind a glass window with steel dividers, in an enclosure just off the winding road, was a statue of Mother Mary. I stood before her, my own reflection visible in the contours of the folds of her clothing captured in the stone statue. It was as if I had been there always in her heart and was now met with the reminder of her eternal presence.
The storm clouds in the Irish skies there in Donegal were reflected around her form. She was a welcome sight after a long day's drive filled with adventure and soul growth. She who held the worlds together would not be deterred by the crack in the sky. Nor would the crack in my own heart or in so many hearts like mine cause her to turn away. On the contrary, she so gentle and good was the silent strength who had never left me. It was I who had forgotten how she walked with me on the way.
She stood strong, gentle guardian of the grace so freely given. The skies opened and the rain begin to fall with a fury. Yet her whispered prayers for me would not be drowned out by the storm that raged. She held worlds together—worlds without and worlds within.
