On their return trip, they had turned south again, toward the shore where she had first come to this land. He remembered his first journey to Gaul, too, on a ship with so many other soldiers, eager to serve and proud. He recalled how he had seen a glimmer of something better for his life. As they sat in silence on the rocky shore, they witnessed the miracle of the morning sun.
A song of new beginnings rose up between them. It was as if all the shipwrecked dreams awash between them and within them were taken in by sea and sky. It was morning, the first day, and the world began again in the end of their lives. And they gave thanks and called it good.
This painting is inspired by my day on the eastern shore of France in the spring of 2016, and by all I know by heart. During my time there, the soul of France reawakened me and connected me more deeply to my soul’s story and memories from a life long ago. All Soul of France paintings explore experiences, natural landscapes, and the history of this land that speaks to my heart.
What is your essential story of life? What is alive in you?
