Soul of Ireland Original Painting
I came across three horses huddled in the cold rain on a rambling drive through County Donegal in the west of Ireland. The trio of equine friends stood shoulder to shoulder, staring at me as if they were trying to tell me something.
In the silence, they spoke to me of the haggard life they had lived and all the holy moments that hung in the balance between us. I dubbed them the “three amigos” and paid my tribute to their steadfast loyalty and the eternal spirit of Donegal by memorializing them in paint.
One for all. All for one. That’s how I want to move through life. Are you with me?
The horses of Ireland spoke to me wherever I went. They had seen so much and still stood strong. There in the Donegal field they stood—a trinitarian reminder of what is eternal and will surely survive the storm. Mirrored in their eyes I saw faith and fortitude.
The three amigos connected me that day to my own essential story of life, reminding me that there was so much of the story yet to be revealed. As they stood watching me I felt the truth rise up and knew that you and I might always find a friend along life's winding way, should we dare to be present to the seed of kinship there on the lonely highway.
They were so different from and yet so much alike the three horses who had come to me in a vision halfway around the world in the desert of northern New Mexico. The two trios offered two perspectives of a single truth, and that truth at its core was love and only love. This painting is also part of the Animal Kingdom series of paintings.
