The rain fell that morning and yet, as she stood beside the century-old farmhouse and looked out over the Peaks of Otter, there was only blessing and invitation. Two pillars, guardians of the Blue Ridge, beckoned with a strange stoic serenity, and she knew this was where she would enter into the long-promised time of tranquility. In the curvature of the sloping field came a certain calm. Sitting by the urn of yesteryear, she stretched her heart and leaned into the promised peaks and turned her eye toward the Blue Ridge and all that lay beyond.
