SHALOM
Did you know that the Hebrew word "Shalom" refers to a much deeper and more inner experience of peace than many of us may have previously realized? It means something closer to wholeness, completion, and well-being in all things. This painting was created in response to the quote that opens my book, Birds of a Feather, and the companion online journey: “Faith is the bird that feels the light when the dawn is still dark,” wrote the poet, Tagore. It was also informed by a tragic hate crime which occurred in a Jewish synagogue in October 2018.
I truly believe that the key to global peace and freedom begins within each human soul. We are birds of a feather meant to fly free, together, into a “new era, rich and love.“ The more each of us connects to the light, life, and love we are at our core, the more those feeling trapped in darkness or swept up in the fear and separation that leads to hate might return to faith, hope, and love and find another way forward.
Shalom. May we all live into its fullest meaning.
